Our Christian vision means that our pupils experience engaging activities in computing that contribute to pupils becoming active learners and engage as active members of the school, local, national and global community.

How do we ‘OPEN THE DOORS OF POSSIBILITY’ TO our children for Computing?

A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

At St John’s, we use KAPOW! computing to ensure children are given opportunities to practise their digital literacy,  skills, information technology skills and computer science skills.  The children build upon their prior knowledge and understanding to develop their skills through a range of units designed to give them experience of many areas of computing.  Every year group has a discrete online safety unit and this message is reinforced throughout every area of the curriculum.

How do we NURTURE these possibilities for Computing?

Our Computing curriculum nurtures their interest by providing a supportive learning environment where students can explore and experiment with different ICT applications, receiving guidance and feedback to enhance their skills.

What DO WE MAKE POSSIBLE for our children in Computing?

We make it possible for our children to improve in Computing by encouraging our students to become independent learners and, pursuing their own ICT interests outside of school, fostering innovation, creativity and problem-solving abilities, ultimately preparing them for future academic and professional endeavours in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
